A Kitchen Timer
I like having a dedicated timer in the kitchen. While you could easily use a phone, it's annoying to have to deal with it when your hands are wet or dirty. Pressing a button to start a timer is also much more convenient than fiddling with a phone. In my old student accommodation, we had at least three timers in the kitchen at some point. One of them was set to ten minutes for pasta. Good old times; I wonder if they are still there and being used.
I was looking for a timer for my kitchen. While there are high-end options, they don't look that they offer much more for their price, and in the end I came across this one, which is sold under many different names. The nice thing about it is that it has three timers combined, it's pretty loud, and it has decent visual indicators showing which timer is going off. There are three things that could be better. Firstly, pressing the clear button does nothing when a timer is still running. Secondly, the back does not go all the way to the front edges, so when you press the buttons, the timer might slip. Thirdly, while I like that the timer starts counting up once it's finished, there's no way to silence it while keeping it running. Though I don't know if anyone besides me would like this feature. One more thing is that it is not waterproof, something I haven't needed yet. Fingers crossed.
Overall, it does its job well. While it's not something you might normally think about, it's one of the kitchen appliances I use pretty much every day. Even if it's only for making tea or coffee in the morning.
